A new type of slate for roofing materials
TECHNONICOL became the first company in the world which produces waterproofing materials with processed slate using fully fledged ceramic technology. Currently, there are only two companies in the world which produce slate protection using ceramic technology at a low firing temperature.
TECHNONICOL specialists have refined traditional ceramic technology and created a solution for slate protection with a ceramic coating. In terms of quality and its performance properties this slate is not inferior to natural basalt granules. Ceramic slate protection is one of the most popular protective coatings for polymer-bitumen materials used in the installation of both pitched and flat roofs.
Traditional slate can change colour over time due to the oiling of the bitumen compound with light fractions and the formation of efflorescence. This problem is most acute in the Scandinavian roofing market. The tradition of using bitumen membranes in private housing construction originates in Western Europe, where roofing slate is used as the main material for rooing. European regulations allow consumers to demand consistent roofing colours from a producer. This problem was solved in the production of basalt granules, since they are painted using high-temperature ceramic technology. The colour, as if baked, retains its durability and brightness throughout the entire service life of the slate. Previously, it was believed that due to the nature of the rock, slate could not be painted in the same way as the basalt granules.
Ceramic slate protects the bitumen layer of the waterproofing membrane from ultraviolet, moisture and other atmospheric influences. This coating has a number of undeniable advantages over traditional slate, including stability and uniformity of colour scheme, which does not depend on the production batch. Thus, even when installing materials from different batches, there is no risk of getting different colours on the roof.
